T&T cricketers, beaten into second place in the league phase of the 2011 regional under-19 championships, will be hoping to go one better when action in the shorter form of the game starts today. The youngsters who are defending the title, had a good work out at the Everest cricket ground yesterday ahead of their match against hosts Guyana at Bourda. Manager of the team Roland Sampath said the team is ready for action and the most of the players are in good form."The boys have been building nicely throughout the tournament and with a little more luck, they would have won the league. They are at a good stage as far as their form is concerned and they will be a force to be reckoned with in the limited overs format."The former policeman and T&T player said the trump card for T&T will be in the bowling.
"We will again be looking to our bowlers to give us that edge in the series. Our bowlers, especially the spinners have been very accurate in the league and this is exactly what we need in the limited overs."They have put the ball down in the right areas very often and they will be difficult to dismantle. The batting has also come along nicely and we have really gotten use to the conditions here."We have some very aggressive and free-scoring batsmen in this squad and they have been told to just go out there and play their natural game."League champions Jamaica will start their bid for the double against Barbados at Everest cricket ground. The Leewards who were last in the league will meet the Windwards in their first game at the Guyana National Stadium. Action begins at 9.30 am.
