Sprinter Kelly-Ann Baptiste and shot puter Cleopatra Borel-Brown are listed in the top ten of the latest IAAF rankings released on the eve on the 13th World Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Games, which take place at the Daegu Stadium, Daegu, South Korea, runs from Saturday to September 4. Baptiste is the highest placed local athlete at fifth in the women's 100m standings. The national sprint record holder clocked 10.91 in winning the Diamond Paris Leg on July 8.The Plymouth speedster's time is the second quickest of her career with only her national mark of 10.84 set in June of 2010 faster. Semoy Hackett (11.17-30th), Michelle Lee-Ahye (11.22-53rd) and Ayanna Hutchinson (11.36-93rd) are all in the top 100. The four form part of T&T women's 4x100m team in Daegu.
Borel-Brown is at number seven in the women's shot put. The two time Commonwealth Games medallist threw a national record of 19.42 on the same day of Baptiste's victory in Paris. Annie Alexander (17.66) and Hileen James (16.14-112th) are also listed. Alexander was not included in local contingent by the NAAA to Daegu despite bettering the B standard of 17.30m and is also at 57th in the women's discus with a national record mark of 58.58m. Janeil Bellille sits at 30th in the women's 400m hurdles performance list with 55.80. The 2008 World Junior silver medallist achieved the time in taking the women's one lap event at the Texas Open on April 2. The South Plain College was under the World B qualifying standard of 56.55 and was inexplicably omitted from the National World Champs team.
Reigning World Champ bronze medallist in the event Josanne Lucas is at 67th on 56.86 with Sparkle Mc Knight in 127th (57.88). Lucas ender her 2011 season early due to injury. In the women's triple jump, Ayanna Alexander stands at 59th with 13.98m. The 2011 Central American and Caribbean Championships champion's mark is a national outdoor record. Alexander was originally named to travel to Daegu but could not make the trip as the NAAA was informed by the IAAF that the CAC title won by Alexander is not an automatic World Championships qualifier.
Tomorrow we look at the men's rankings.
