If you expected Cowboys and Aliens to be a failure, you were wrong. I am guilty of assuming it as a flop myself, but maybe it was the state-of-the-art IMAX screen that made the experience so amazing. Cowboys and Aliens blew me away, had me laughing until my cheeks hurt, and on the verge of tears at some points. I really was impressed. It might have been the title, or the concept, but I honestly had no intention of watching the movie for personal reasons; I just wouldn't have. I must say that I'm glad I did. If you are an action lover, a western film lover, a science fiction lover, or even just a love lover (romance films) you need to watch Cowboys and Aliens.
Digicel IMAX
The first IMAX movie-house in the Caribbean and the largest screen in the world, is definitely worth the $65 cost ($75 for 3D). I wouldn't recommend it for an ordinary night out or a random movie viewing. For a special outing, however, I would certainly recommend it. A mind-blowing, high-definition cinematic break-through, Digicel IMAX shows their films on a 40- by 70-foot screen. The 3D is absolutely nothing like anything I've seen in the Caribbean and the surround-sound audio makes you feel like you're in the movie. Cowboys and Aliens was not in 3D, but the quality was still way above the bar of any other cinema in the country.
Cowboys and Aliens
A man awakens with no memory of who he is or why he's in the desert alone with a metal bracelet on his arm. Arriving at the nearest town, he finds out that he is in fact a wanted man who goes by the name of Jake Lonergan (Daniel Craig). Arrested almost immediately, but not without a good fight, he is sentenced to be taken to a Santa Fe prison. On the night that he is to be taken away however, an attack by what the locals can only identify as "demons," destroys a large part of the town and captures many of the villagers' loved ones. Jake, with his metal bracelet, shoots down one of the enemy crafts. Realising that he is in fact needed, if even not wanted, the townsfolk leave arresting him to another day. Along the way, many of the party die in search of these "demons." Eventually joining forces with the likes of whom they never thought they would-the war of worlds begins.
Conclusion
I purposely left out a lot of important details because I think that the intriguing part of the movie is the suspense and surprise. All you really need to know is that the movie itself was very good. I was impressed with how well they kept the theme of the old western style films, except with modern actors in modern day. The mix of modern-day science fiction and older western style films was superb and on point. If you can see Cowboys and Aliens in the Digicel IMAX cinema (ONE Woodbrook Place), I suggest you do. If not, I still urge you watch the film; you are almost guaranteed to enjoy it.
