Charges have not yet been laid against Selwyn "Robocop" Alexis who has been in custody since his arrest last Tuesday at One Woodbrook Place, Woodbrook. Police sources told the T&T Guardian a file has been submitted to Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard to determine whether charges will be laid against Alexis. Up to late yesterday the DPP had not given instructions. Alexis, 45, was arrested when members of the Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) raided his apartment and seized a laptop. A Nissan Almera car and a Hilux were also seized during the raid.
Alexis's attorney Joseph Honore had signalled his intention to approach the Review Tribunal, headed by Senior counsel Gilbert Peterson, set up to hear detention matters and complaints during the state of emergency. When contacted yesterday for comment on his next move Honore indicated that he could not speak since he was in a meeting. Last week Crime Suppression Unit officers searched the Gasparillo holding cell where Alexis was being kept and found a Nokia phone and cash. Seven police officers were reportedly served with notices of disciplinary action after a report was submitted to senior Southern Division officers following the incident.
