A 31-year-old man found intoxicated and wandering in Marabella during curfew hours was yesterday fined $1,500. Ted Pierre appeared before San Fernando First Court magistrate Alicia Chankar who, in passing sentence, warned him to stay indoors. She made Pierre repeat the curfew hours of 11 pm to 4 am and advised him to obey it. Pierre was ordered to pay $1,500 in 28 days or serve three months in jail with hard labour.
Pierre said he had been at a pub and was on his way to his mother's house in Marabella when police officers stopped him. Police prosecutor Sgt Gordon Maharaj told the court at around 12.45 am yesterday, Pierre was walking along the Southern Main Road, Marabella. WPC Samuel stopped him and asked if he had a permit or was exempted from the curfew. The officer detected the smell of alcohol on Pierre while she was speaking to him. Pierre was arrested and taken to the Marabella Police Station where he was charged.
