Police have arrested two other suspects in connection with the robbery of a Central family, in which a woman and her teenage daughter were also raped. This brings the number of men detained to four. Based on information received, however, police are searching for a fifth suspect. The suspects, one of whom gave up himself near KFC in in Port-of-Spain Friday night, are believed to be involved in the attack on the family at their Longdenville, Chaguanas home on Thursday morning. The first two men, both 23, were arrested at their homes at Construction Street, Enterprise and Penco Street in Longdenville hours after the incident.
Police said on Friday night the third suspect surrendered to police in Port-of-Spain. Yesterday morning, a party of policemen from Chaguanas CID went to School Street, Enterprise where they arrested a 19-year-old man. It is alleged that he was found with a cellphone belonging to one of the victims and confessed his role in the attack. The family, a 49-year-old woman and her three children, a 17-year-old girl and two sons-ages 19 and 10-were asleep around 3 am in their bedrooms when four men broke into their home.
The teenage girl and her mother were raped in separate rooms while the sons were tied up. They were robbed of an undisclosed sum of money and valuables. They escaped in the family's Toyota Corolla. Police said their inquires revealed that a fifth man may have been involved. His arrest is imminent, police said. Meanwhile six people were arrested on Friday night during an exercise carried out by the Central Division between 7 pm and 12 midnight. Two people were held for drunk driving, six for breaching the curfew and five tickets were also issued for traffic offences.
