An Ari­ma man re­mains hos­pi­talised af­ter he was struck in his head while at­tend­ing an all fours match on Sun­day in Ari­ma. Ryan Balka­ran, 37, of Tumpuna Road, was list­ed in a crit­i­cal con­di­tion in the In­ten­sive Care Unit at the Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex, Mt Hope, up to late yes­ter­day evening. A 23-year-old sus­pect is be­ing held in po­lice cus­tody. A re­port said around 8.30 pm, the sus­pect was re­fused en­try in­to the premis­es where the match was be­ing played but was lat­er seen drink­ing near­by.

Po­lice said he start­ed to ar­gue and pelt­ed bot­tles at the bar. Balka­ran, who had his car in the park­ing lot, came out­side and told the man to "look how he throw­ing those bot­tles." An ar­gu­ment en­sued and the sus­pect al­leged­ly picked up a big stone and struck Balka­ran in the back of his head. Eye­wit­ness­es im­me­di­ate­ly no­ti­fied the po­lice. In­ves­ti­ga­tors said the sus­pect ran off but was lat­er ap­pre­hend­ed at a near­by house. WPC Tim­o­thy and Cpl Phillip, of the Ari­ma CID, are con­tin­u­ing in­quiries.
