An Arima man remains hospitalised after he was struck in his head while attending an all fours match on Sunday in Arima. Ryan Balkaran, 37, of Tumpuna Road, was listed in a critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope, up to late yesterday evening. A 23-year-old suspect is being held in police custody. A report said around 8.30 pm, the suspect was refused entry into the premises where the match was being played but was later seen drinking nearby.
Police said he started to argue and pelted bottles at the bar. Balkaran, who had his car in the parking lot, came outside and told the man to "look how he throwing those bottles." An argument ensued and the suspect allegedly picked up a big stone and struck Balkaran in the back of his head. Eyewitnesses immediately notified the police. Investigators said the suspect ran off but was later apprehended at a nearby house. WPC Timothy and Cpl Phillip, of the Arima CID, are continuing inquiries.
