Chaguanas West MP Jack Warner has described detractors of the Government as "demons" working "morning, noon and night" to see the downfall of the People's Partnership. Warner, who is also Minister of Works and Infrastructure, made the comment on Saturday night while addressing guests attending Divali celebrations in his constituency. It was held at Pierre Road Recreation Ground, Charlieville. Warner said Divail has come at a time when the world was facing tremendous problems. He said the global economic problems have undoubtedly impacted T&T. He said unemployment and slow business were some of the spin-offs of a slow world economy.
Warner said detractors of the Government were using the world crisis to spread discontent in the land in a bid to see the Government fall. He said one of the duties of the Hindu faith was to fight the demons or "rakshas" in the land. Warner said the prime minister and the MPs alone cannot do battle against the demons of crime, unemployment, evil and an empty treasury. He asked Hindus to keep a deya lighted and pray for the country to overcome the demons who want to see T&T fall into darkness.
