For­ward Du­ane Vir­gil, a for­mer NCAA Di­vi­sion 1 play­er with Mur­ray State Uni­ver­si­ty in the Unit­ed States of Amer­i­ca, was the lead­ing scor­er with 19 points as Mal­oney Pac­ers record­ed a com­mand­ing 97-65 vic­to­ry over Roy­al Ex­tra Li­ons when ac­tion in the Su­per 10 Bas­ket­ball League Pre-sea­son con­tin­ued on Sat­ur­day night.It was the sec­ond match of a dou­ble-head­er played at the Jean Pierre Com­plex, Mu­cu­rapo.The fix­ture fol­lowed a Petro Jazz 77-71 win over UTT.The Mal­oney Pac­ers surged in the fi­nal two quar­ters eas­ing to the vic­to­ry af­ter be­ing held at 41-41 the half.

Li­ons were be­hind by two points at the end of the first quar­ter, but had the bet­ter show­ing in the sec­ond, scor­ing 22 points to the Pac­ers' 20, to even the scores.Pac­ers dom­i­nat­ed the Li­ons 24-9 in the third pe­ri­od, be­fore outscor­ing its op­po­nent 32-15 in the fi­nal stan­za. cen­tre Gimel Lewis, who plays pro­fes­sion­al­ly over­seas net­ted 13 points, the sec­ond high­est for the team.Li­ons' skip­per cen­tre An­drew Ifill scored 16 points.

Jazz hold-on to whip UTT

In the first match, de­spite the Uni­ver­si­ty of Trinidad and To­ba­go (UTT) scor­ing an im­pres­sive 31 points to Petro Jazz's 14 in the fi­nal quar­ter, the team was un­able to sal­vage a win. Petro Jazz came out win­ners by the six point mar­gin in spite of UTT's at­tempt at a come­back.

Petro Jazz led by cen­tre-for­ward Steve Mc­Sween, were up 22-15 at the first quar­ter. The team ex­tend­ed its lead to 45-30 and 63-40 in the sec­ond and third quar­ters, be­fore UTT re­duced the deficit in the fi­nal pe­ri­od.

Mc­Sween scored 16 points for the win­ning team, while Dex­ter Man­swell as­sist­ed with 15 points.

Patrick Sci­pio scored a team-high 15 points for UTT, fol­lowed by Jef­frey Har­ris and Ker­ry Ce­les­tine with 14 and 13 points, re­spec­tive­ly.

There will be no match­es played this week due to the un­avail­able of the Jean Pierre Com­plex.
