A Woodland man was yesterday sentenced to two years' jail for fondling the breasts of a student nurse last September. Vaughn Ramjit, 47, of Jack Singh Street, pleaded for a fine when found guilty. However, acting Deputy Chief Magistrate Rajendra Rambachan turned a deaf ear to Ramjit's request and sentenced him to jail.
Ramjit committed the offence on September 20. Court prosecutor Ramdath Phillip called the 28-year-old trainee and police complainant WPC Sheryl-Ann Horsley to testify. In his defence Ramjit claimed the victim owed him $2000 and on the morning of the incident he went to collect his money. He said the woman refused to give him the money and framed him with the charge because he asked for the $2000.
