The Naparima Bowl is a historical landmark in San Fernando. It was opened to the public on August 27, 1962 and will be celebrating 50 years next year. The Bowl continues to serve the people very well in arts and culture. In the early years it held Jaycees beauty queen shows, children's Carnival, calypso tents and steel pan competitions. There have always been year-round activities, such as secondary schools music festivals, graduations, fetes, social gatherings, seminars, meetings and of course drama shows and comedy skits.
You may say that NAPA South is a state-of-the-art building but a refurbished Naparima Bowl could match the new facility. NAPA South would serve the new generation in the next 20 years and more. Being the coach at the nearby Promenade Tennis Club, I would like to see the Bowl remain for the next 50 years rather than destroy the pride of San Fernando and its people.
