Dur­ing last year's cham­pi­onships at the Mt Irvine Golf Course in To­ba­go, the US's Max King won the men's 8 km in 23 min­utes, 48.20 sec­onds while Richard Jones was T&T's best per­former in 11th. T&T's placed fourth over­all in the team cat­e­go­ry be­hind win­ners USA, Mex­i­co and Guyana re­spec­tive­ly.

The Women's 6 km ti­tle went to an­oth­er Amer­i­can, Delilah Di­cre­sen­zo, the in­spi­ra­tion for the pop­u­lar Plain White T's 2006 song "Hey There Delilah". Saman­tha Shuk­la was the first lo­cal to cross the line in 11th. Spon­sors for the cham­pi­onships in­clude the Hy­att Re­gency Trinidad, where the in­ter­na­tion­al team's will stay, the IAAF, Blue Wa­ters, the Na­tion­al Gas Com­pa­ny, Gatorade and the Na­tion­al Lot­tery Con­trol Board.
