The Am­a­teur Swim­ming As­so­ci­a­tion of T&T has ap­plaud­ed Chris­t­ian Homer and Cherelle Thomp­son on their achieve­ment in cap­tur­ing the 2010 First Cit­i­zens Sports Foun­da­tion Ju­nior Sports­man and Ju­nior Sports­woman of the Year.The ath­letes were be­stowed the ho­n­our at the an­nu­al awards func­tion which was held at the Na­tion­al Acad­e­my for the Per­form­ing Arts (NA­PA), Port-of-Spain, on Wednes­day night.

In a re­lease from Pub­lic Re­la­tions Of­fi­cer, Ja­son Wick­ham, ASATT stat­ed it was al­so proud of Cadell Lyons and for­mer award win­ner George Bovell III who were named in the top ten ath­letes in the Ju­nior and Se­nior Cat­e­gories re­spec­tive­ly."Our swim­mers have con­tin­ued to swim valiant­ly for the red, white and black, train­ing hard day in and day out for the hope of Olympic glo­ry," the re­lease stat­ed.

Homer had a fan­tas­tic year in which he won this coun­try's first Youth Olympic gold medal in Sin­ga­pore.He was al­so a fi­nal­ist at the Cen­tral Amer­i­can and Caribbean (CAC) Games, a se­mi-fi­nal­ist at the Com­mon­wealth Games, a mul­ti­ple re­gion­al medal­list win­ning a to­tal of ten in­di­vid­ual medals at the Carif­ta and Caribbean Is­lands Swim­ming Cham­pi­onship, es­tab­lish­ing two Carif­ta records and one na­tion­al record.

Thomp­son en­joyed an im­pres­sive 2010 sea­son, reach­ing the fi­nals at CAC Games and se­mi-fi­nals at the Com­mon­wealth Games in In­dia.She al­so es­tab­lished two new na­tion­al records in 2010, and was the on­ly T&T Ju­nior to qual­i­fy for the World Short Course Cham­pi­onships in Dubai.Thomp­son won a to­tal of six in­di­vid­ual medals at the Carif­ta and Caribbean Is­lands Swim­ming Cham­pi­onships.

The re­lease con­tin­ued, "We are in­deed proud of our swim­mers and all our ath­letes who con­tin­ue to bring glo­ry to our swim­ming fra­ter­ni­ty and the coun­try as a whole. The per­for­mances of this quar­tet are out­stand­ing, they are de­serv­ing of all ac­co­lades be­stowed up­on them. Our As­so­ci­a­tion is com­mit­ted to de­vel­op­ment of all our ath­letes to reach the elite lev­el, and con­tribute to T&T's medal haul at the 2012 Lon­don Olympics."The lo­cal swim­ming as­so­ci­a­tion al­so ex­pressed its thanks to the Sports Foun­da­tion for the con­fi­dence they have re­posed in our ath­letes by their se­lec­tions while it ex­tend­ed con­grat­u­la­tions to all oth­er win­ners and nom­i­nees.
