Mayaro Carnival 2011 has been labeled by onlookers as one the biggest ever celebrations in the history of the region. Up to $75,000 in prizes were for the taking as hundreds of spectators lined the streets to witness the colourful portrayals. The Band of the Year title went to Patsy and Associates with Things of Trinidad as they rake up a total of 257 points. Three points behind in second placed was Michelle Ram mas band with Three Elements-Earth, Fire, Water Third place with 236 points went to E Allsop with their presentation of Fancy Sailors. J'Ouvert celebrations kicked off around 4 am and saw some splendid old mas taking over the streets. The band Street Vybes with their portrayal of Rum Puncheon, Anything won the first place prize with 217 points. (KF)
