Having never e-mailed you before, I just felt that I could notlet my sadness atthe demise of the Caribbean service go un-recorded. I am sure that this is preaching to the converted, but it really is astonishing that so little regard is held by the current Government fora service that has been a beacon of excellence in not only bringing quality news to the Caribbean, but also,a unifying force in helping develop a Caribbean identity for its listeners through the breath and warmth of its recording of the wonderful variety there is in the region.
This has, in turn, brought reflected affection and respect for Britainfar, far beyond the meagre amount spent in maintaining the service. That the politicians should choose to dump all of this, for a relatively small saving in expenditure, is a reflection of how little understanding there is of the importance of history and commitment to people, the majority of whom the same politicians will no doubt pay lip-service to as being important Commonwealth partners.
