Hav­ing nev­er e-mailed you be­fore, I just felt that I could not­let my sad­ness atthe demise of the Caribbean ser­vice go un-record­ed. I am sure that this is preach­ing to the con­vert­ed, but it re­al­ly is as­ton­ish­ing that so lit­tle re­gard is held by the cur­rent Gov­ern­ment fo­ra ser­vice that has been a bea­con of ex­cel­lence in not on­ly bring­ing qual­i­ty news to the Caribbean, but al­so,a uni­fy­ing force in help­ing de­vel­op a Caribbean iden­ti­ty for its lis­ten­ers through the breath and warmth of its record­ing of the won­der­ful va­ri­ety there is in the re­gion.

This has, in turn, brought re­flect­ed af­fec­tion and re­spect for Britain­far, far be­yond the mea­gre amount spent in main­tain­ing the ser­vice. That the politi­cians should choose to dump all of this, for a rel­a­tive­ly small sav­ing in ex­pen­di­ture, is a re­flec­tion of how lit­tle un­der­stand­ing there is of the im­por­tance of his­to­ry and com­mit­ment to peo­ple, the ma­jor­i­ty of whom the same politi­cians will no doubt pay lip-ser­vice to as be­ing im­por­tant Com­mon­wealth part­ners.
