In underscoring how important it is for small suppliers to tap into the tourism value chain, Bartlett indicated that the new 'Five by Five' Loan Scheme, financed by the Tourism Enhancement Fund, which makes $100 million available to small producers of goods such as farmers who supply the tourism sector, to access loans of up to $5million at 5% over a period of 5 years, is aimed at facilitating this. Bartlett emphasized that in addition to this "discussions are underway with the IDB to secure a loan window which would provide access to up to US$10 million through the Inter- American Investment Corporation, IIC, to assist small hotels and medium sized businesses that supply goods and services to the tourism sector." Stressing that these initiatives are aimed at capitalizing on the demand fuelled by the tourism sector Bartlett noted that "the transformative effect of Tourism is yet to be truly appreciated as it is only when the economy is able to absorb the demand for goods and services from tourism that the true impact and potential of the sector will realized."
