Roman Catholic priest Fr Clyde Harvey says the real challenge for the Peoples National Movement (PNM) is that the party must be worthy of leadership in order to govern. He said that no political party was indispensable in T&T no matter "how much you may have done." He said the the PNM must return to its roots and principles. Harvey made the comment on Tuesday afternoon in his homily during the memorial service to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the passing of Dr Eric Eustace Williams.
The service took place at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Independence Square, Port-of-Spain. The event was attended by members of the late prime minister's family and key members of the opposition.Among them were the PNM's Political Leader Dr Keith Rowley, education officer Neil Parsanlal, chairman of the party Franklin Khan, Opposition Chief Whip Marlene Mc Donald and Senator Fitzgerald Hinds. "May God heal the PNM so that through you and others T&T can be healed." Harvey told the packed congregation.
Harvey added: "The founder and the principles are always to be in a dynamic relationship with the party. One fundamental principle is that you must have no divine right to rule. "If you say that, you must also say that no party is indispensable to Trinidad and Tobago no matter how much you may have done."
