Relatives of two men who were shot dead by the police in Champs Fleurs on Wednesday claim the men were executed by the officers who used unnecessary force. Kerwin Andrews and his family were held up at gunpoint by two robbers who stormed his Andrews Drive, Champs Fleurs, home and held him and his family hostage. Calid "Scoop" Antoine, 25, and Kyle "Rabi" John, 19, both of Mt D'Or Road, were shot dead at the scene in an exchange of gunfire with officers from the North-eastern Division Task Force. In an interview at the Forensic Science Centre yesterday, one of John's relatives, who did not want to be identified, said: "They were put to kneel down outside and the police (allegedly) shot one of them while the other watched." She said there was an eyewitness at the scene when the two friends were killed.
"I have no problems but the police had no right to kill them. "They could have shot them in the leg and brought them into the station. One bullet alone will kill a man," the woman added. She said relatives had premonitions of John's death. "I spoke with him last week and the last night he was alive. I told him I had a vision that a friend would call him and he was dead," she said. The relative said another family member had a vision that John's chest was riddled with bullet holes and his body felt cold and clammy.
She said John had cases pending in court for possession of marijuana and physical assault in school. She described him as a "friendly person who was always smiling." One of Antoine's relatives said prior to their deaths the men were happy and "liming". "Everything was good. The police are lying, they had no right to kill them," the relative said. She said Antoine was "troublesome but family-oriented."
