?Three-time Caribbean Football Union winners, W Connection will look clip the wings of the visiting New York Red Bulls when both teams meet in their first-leg Concacaf Champions League preliminary round match tonight. The clash between, the Digicel Pro League's W Connection and US Major League Soccer's Red Bulls kicks-off at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella at 8 pm.
The second-leg is set for Wednesday (August 5) at the Giants Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey. The "Savonetta Boys" as W Connection are known qualified for the Champions League after winning the CFU by defeated 2008 winner Puerto Rico Islanders, 2-1 in the final. However, W Connection led by strikers Jonathan Frias and Andre Toussaint has not enjoyed a good start to the local league campaign and currently lies in fifth spot with 19 points, with a 5-4-3 record.
Meanwhile, the Red Bulls who qualified for this year's tournament as beaten finalist in the 2008 MLS Cup are also struggling in its league and are on a season-high 12 match winless streak. In their last league match on Saturday, Colombian striker Juan Pablo Angel and the Red Bulls, bottom of the Eastern Conference with 10 points from 21 matches, suffered a 4-0 blowout by the Colorado Rapids. The team has one point from 12 road games this season.
Prior to tonight's encounter, W Connection and Red Bulls have met once before, a pre-season friendly in 2005 which ended in a 1-0 win for the US club. Expected to lead the attack for the Red Bulls is Colombian striker, Juan Pablo Angel The winner of the two-game aggregate goals series will qualify for Group D in the Group Stage, where they face Pumas UNAM (Mexico), Comunicaciones of Guatemala and the winner of the Liberia (Costa Rica) and Real Espana (Honduras) series.
