Senior Counsel Dana Seetahal who is prosecuting the cases against murder accused Silas Mack has now been appointed to prosecute matters against his girlfriend Samantha Persad. This was told to Magistrate Nanette Forde-John yesterday by police prosecutor Sgt Gregory Worrell, after Persad reappeared before her in the Chaguanas First Magistrates' Court. Persad, 21, is charged with receiving stolen jewelry belonging to murdered teenager Gail Durity,19, and Sally Lobai, who has been missing since February 11.

Persad, who is out on $25,000 bail, was arrested on April 29 at her Felicity home. She was charged by Cpl Alexis Garcia, of Eastern Division Task Force. The first charge alleges that sometime between February 11 and April 29, at Line Lane Street, she received a stolen silver chain and a heart pendant valued $150, belonging to Lobai. The other charge states that between June 1, 2008, and April 29, 2009, at the same address, she received two silver chains valued $200, belonging to Durity.
Persad was represented by attorney Nalini Bansee, who held for attorney Ravi Rajcoomar. Her matters were adjourned to January 7.
