Se­nior Coun­sel Dana See­ta­hal who is pros­e­cut­ing the cas­es against mur­der ac­cused Silas Mack has now been ap­point­ed to pros­e­cute mat­ters against his girl­friend Saman­tha Per­sad. This was told to Mag­is­trate Nanette Forde-John yes­ter­day by po­lice pros­e­cu­tor Sgt Gre­go­ry Wor­rell, af­ter Per­sad reap­peared be­fore her in the Ch­agua­nas First Mag­is­trates' Court. Per­sad, 21, is charged with re­ceiv­ing stolen jew­el­ry be­long­ing to mur­dered teenag­er Gail Du­ri­ty,19, and Sal­ly Lobai, who has been miss­ing since Feb­ru­ary 11.

Mack is be­fore the same mag­is­trate, charged with sev­er­al se­ri­ous of­fences, in­clud­ing mur­der­ing Du­ri­ty and kid­nap­ping Lobai. Per­sad, who is out on $25,000 bail, was ar­rest­ed on April 29 at her Fe­lic­i­ty home. She was charged by Cpl Alex­is Gar­cia, of East­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force. The first charge al­leges that some­time be­tween Feb­ru­ary 11 and April 29, at Line Lane Street, she re­ceived a stolen sil­ver chain and a heart pen­dant val­ued $150, be­long­ing to Lobai. The oth­er charge states that be­tween June 1, 2008, and April 29, 2009, at the same ad­dress, she re­ceived two sil­ver chains val­ued $200, be­long­ing to Du­ri­ty.

Per­sad was rep­re­sent­ed by at­tor­ney Nali­ni Bansee, who held for at­tor­ney Ravi Ra­j­coomar. Her mat­ters were ad­journed to Jan­u­ary 7. Mack, a PH dri­ver, of Sul­tan Av­enue, Cunu­pia, is charged with mur­der­ing Du­ri­ty, some­time be­tween May 31 and June 2 last year. Her body was dis­cov­ered in a co­conut plan­ta­tion in Man­zanil­la, a day af­ter she left her Dass Trace, En­ter­prise, home. He is al­so charged with mur­der­ing De­vi­ka Lal­man. She was miss­ing five days be­fore her body was found in a rice field off South­ern Main Road in Cunu­pia.

Mack is al­so charged with kid­nap­ping Lobai, who dis­ap­peared on Feb­ru­ary 11, af­ter she trav­elled to Ch­agua­nas for a job in­ter­view, and Ri­ana Parag, who dis­ap­peared last De­cem­ber 16, af­ter a shop­ping trip in Ch­agua­nas. He al­so faces charges of kid­nap­ping Leah Lam­my, eight, and steal­ing her cell­phone. She has not been seen since she left Ed­in­burgh Gov­ern­ment Pri­ma­ry School on Feb­ru­ary 10. He is al­so joint­ly charged with Ish­mael Mo­hammed, 26, with rape, kid­nap­ping and rob­bery, which al­leged­ly oc­curred on Ju­ly 25 last year. Both men will reap­pear in court on Sep­tem­ber 16.
