?Tamara John and Lloyd Pierre were the outstanding players when the T&T Scrabble Association, in partnership with Arima Rotary Club and the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs, hosted the finals of the annual scrabble tournament on Saturday at the Roof Top of the Mount Hope Hospital. John, a former national player, was outstanding in the Senior category. The 17-year-old East Zone champion won all five games she played. John has been unbeaten for this season and continues to keep the legacy of her grandparents Pat and Robin John, who represented T&T at major national scrabble tournaments. Outstanding plays also came from Pierre, who copped most of the prizes among the juniors.
He was the East Zone winner, and he captured the highest "J Word", the highest "Z Word", the highest single play with 119 points and the highest game score with 528 points. Players from Tobago also shared in the prizes, with Tamika Mitchell and Kadesha Kent holding their own against their Trinidad counterparts. Fatima emerged the top school among the juniors with nine wins and a points differential of 474. In second place was Signal Hill (seven wins) and third St Mary's (six wins). St Augustine Girls' copped the Senior Division title with eight wins and a points differential of 261. ASJA San Fernando was runner-up and St Mary's third.
