Play­ers of both the Guyana and T&T crick­et teams have been praised by their cap­tains for re­spond­ing pos­i­tive­ly to calls to con­tribute to the fund-rais­ing match for the earth­quake-strick­en vic­tims in Haiti. The match will be played at Queen's Park Oval to­mor­row. The teams com­plet­ed their re­gion­al four-day match late last night but will trav­el to T&T to­day to par­tic­i­pate in a T20 char­i­ty match to help the peo­ple of Haiti.

T&T cap­tain, Daren Gan­ga, said his team-mates were sad­dened and over­whelmed by the enor­mi­ty of the dis­as­ter that has be­fall­en the peo­ple of Haiti from the awe­some earth­quake. "They need­ed no per­sua­sion to play for their suf­fer­ing and un­for­tu­nate Cari­com broth­ers and sis­ters," Gan­ga said. Guyana's cap­tain, Sew­nar­ine Chat­ter­goon, said his play­ers ac­knowl­edged un­hesi­tat­ing­ly how crit­i­cal it was to show sol­i­dar­i­ty and sup­port for their fel­low Caribbean fam­i­lies in their mo­ment of need and des­per­a­tion.

"I want to com­pli­ment the or­gan­is­ers for the alacrity with which the game has been or­gan­ised and look­ing for­ward to a keen­ly con­test­ed game against our old ri­vals," Chat­ter­goon said. Cari­com's Sec­re­tary-gen­er­al Dr Ed­win Car­ring­ton and his as­sis­tant Dr Ed­ward Greene have been in­vit­ed to match. An in­vi­ta­tion has al­so been is­sued to the Pres­i­dent of the Guyana Crick­et Board, Chetram Singh. Pres­i­dent and CEO of WIPA, Di­nanath Ram­nar­ine said the re­sponse has been over­whelm­ing. "It just goes to show how much we as a peo­ple care and are af­fect­ed by this cat­a­stro­phe in Haiti. "We ex­pect the game to be sold out," he said.
