?Political Leader of Congress of the People (COP) Winston Dookeran is not ruling out the possibility of unity between the COP and the United National Congress (UNC) with the election on Sunday of Kamla Persad-Bissessar as political leader.
Interviewed yesterday, Dookeran, in congratulating Persad-Bissessar, said her win, "reflected a new page in the history of politics." He said her success reflected the coming together of politics and the people and it showed more people were now ready to embark on the process of getting politics right. He said now was the time for a revival of political harmony.
When asked if there wasBissessar had been elected leader of the UN a possibility of unity between the two parties now that Persad-C, Dookeran said he would be more than happy to engage in such discussions. He, however, said all discussions between the two parties, "should not be held behind closed doors"and insisted the public must be included in any negotiations between the two. He said with all obstacles removed between the two parties unity could be a possibility once an agreed upon agenda was presented and the public "embraced" in all negotiations.
