?World Junior 400m silver medallist (2008) Janeil Bellille of NeonTrackers won the women's 100m hurdles and 400m flat events at the ninth annual Falcons Games which ended on Sunday at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet.
Bellille, who has been struggling with injuries since her success two years ago in Bydgoszcz, Poland, took the hurdles event in 14.39 seconds and the one lap race in 54.91. Defending boy's Under-20 triple jump Carifta champion, Elton Walcott won the men's triple jump in 15.88 metres. It equalled the national junior record mark set by Kyron Blaise in 2008, however, the distance was not legal as no wind reading was recorded. Guyana's Cleveland Ford completed an impressive double, taking the 10k road race in 34:02 and then returning later to win the men's 1500m in 4:03.24. Compatriot Kelvin Johnson won the men's 500m on Saturday in 15:41.91 ahead of another Guyanese Lionel D'Andrade 15:59.35.
Jamaican sprinter, Oral Thompson won both the men's 100 and 200m, the 28-year-old winning the 100m on Saturday in 10.53 ahead of Shawn Stuart (Memphis) 10.73 seconds and Richard Ford (Barbados) in 10.79 seconds and the 200m on Sunday in 20.73 beating his compatriot and defending champion Xavier Brown (21.32). American Ashley Owen sprinted away with the women's 100m in 11.80 seconds. The 2004 double World Junior champion was ahead of Janice Daley of Jamaica (12.04). Owen had to settle for second spot in the 200m, going down to TT's Reyare Thomas (23.91). Two-time World Championships long jump silver medallist, James Beckford, of Jamaica, won the men's long jump in 7.67m (nwi) ahead of T&T's pair of Atiba Wright and Sean Michael Stafford, both of whom jumped 7.29 metres.
Beckford, the 1995 and 2003 World championship runner-up, was scheduled to run in the men's 100m but did not start. Fellow Jamaican Sheree Francis won the women's high jump in 1.75m from Jeanelle Ovid (Bishops) in 1.70m. In the women' long jump, Carisa Leacock (Bishops) was first in 5.72m and Keshorn Walcott (Toco) won the men's javelin in 60.48m. Kayelle Clarke (La Brea) won three gold medals for the second straight meet taking the 100m (12.80), 200 (26.00) and 400 (61.03) in the girls Under-15 Category. At the Southern Games seven days before Clarke completed the same treble. The meet was the final warm-up for the 69-member T&T team heading for the 39th Carifta Junior Games scheduled for the Truman Bodden Sporting Complex in Gran Cayman, Cayman Islands, from Saturday to Monday.
