Sports Minister Anil Roberts is the Government's flag-bearer for uncouth, arrogant behaviour and disrespect for others in the Parliament, PNM MP Amery Browne said on Friday. Browne was speaking in the wee hours of the morning in the Lower House's budget debate. Browne said few Government MPs seem to understand how solemn their task is. "I see early signs of arrogance, chest-beating and shoving numbers in the Opposition's face," Browne said.
Browne said such signs should worry the Government and some of its members.
He told the Government that its success would not be measured "by how much you lash the PNM or snarl" at the Opposition. Browne warned the Prime Minister to scrutinise those who "sit around you today." He said he had heard some government ministers complained that there was "too much democracy in T&T."
He claimed COP members were also "outraged" by what he described as "old politics dressed up as new politics." Browne said the new Government was trying to get some traction against the PNM in the absence of any charges laid against PNMites. Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar shot up to take issue with Browne's attempt to speak about WASA CEO Ganga Singh and the Desalcott issue. (GA)
