Leg-spinner Lewis is WI interim manager

ST JOHN'S–For­mer West In­dies leg-spin­ner Rawl Lewis has been ap­point­ed in­ter­im West In­dies team man­ag­er for next month's Twen­ty20 World Cup in In­dia.The 41-year-old, cur­rent­ly a West In­dies Crick­et Board project of­fi­cer, played five Tests and 28 One-Day In­ter­na­tion­als be­tween 1997 and 2009.

"He brings to the job a wealth of ad­min­is­tra­tive ex­pe­ri­ence, hav­ing worked in the WICB Op­er­a­tions De­part­ment for six years, since re­tir­ing from re­gion­al crick­et," a WICB re­lease said yes­ter­day.Lewis fills the role left va­cant by for­mer West In­dies cap­tain Sir Richie Richard­son who left in Jan­u­ary to take up a post as match ref­er­ee with the In­ter­na­tion­al Crick­et Coun­cil.

The WICB since ad­ver­tised the post of team man­ag­er.West In­dies will do bat­tle at the March 8 to April 3 T20 World Cup in Group 1 along­side the likes of Eng­land, South Africa, Sri Lan­ka, and a yet-to-be-de­ter­mined qual­i­fi­er.

The re­gion­al side will un­der­go a pre-tour­na­ment prepa­ra­tion camp in Dubai be­fore head­ing on­to Kolkata for of­fi­cial warm-up games there against In­dia and Aus­tralia.

West In­dies play­ers left the re­gion in two batch­es, with the first de­part­ing last Sat­ur­day and the sec­ond yes­ter­day.
