Sandra Chouthi passed away on April 13 at 3.12 pm and was cremated on April 15, 2015.
During her lifetime and especially during her working life, both at the T&T Guardian and the Trinidad Express, she made a great impact on so many people.
It was very consoling to her family the wonderful sentiments expressed by her colleagues, friends, management of both newspapers, from relatives and the many well-wishers.
I would like to acknowledge ministers Rudy Indarsingh, Vasant Bharath, Ganga Singh and, in particular, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar for their kind words.
Some have remarked that such a wonderful person left us too soon but, as strong believers in the laws of Karma, we believe that God took her at her appointed time.
Sandra believed that the best way to serve God was to be of service to humanity.
Every July/August vacation she would find needy families from different parts of the country.
She would donate their school books and offer financial aid to the parents.
Many families from Bamboo Settlement, where she grew up, benefitted from her generosity. Such was the kindness of my sister!
The Chouthi family would like to thank everyone who helped us through this difficult time.
Special mention must be made of the following individuals:
2 Lynette Sinanan, who was like a second mother to Sandra;
2 Nalini Lakhansingh, her supportive neighbour and friend;
2 Natasha Saidwan, her friend and confidante;
2 Her colleagues at the T&T Guardian, including Shirley Bahadur, Anthony Wilson, Suzanne Sheppard, Irving Ward and the entire Guardian birthday club;
2 Her colleagues at the Express including Omatie Lyder, Kim Boodram, Kay Baldeosingh and Kathleen Maharaj;
2 Thanks to Joannah Bharose, Ken Gordon, Nicole Lalchan, Felisha (her schoolmate), and Ousha Dass for their support.
We are grateful to my good friend Gideon Hanoomansingh, the master of ceremonies, and everyone who expressed those wonderful sentiments in tribute to my sister.
May her soul rest in peace.
Premnath Chouthi
