Amjad Ali and Derek Faria, competing under the Team Serta banner, emerged winners of the 16th Annual Scotiabank Women Against Breast Cancer Charity Golf Tournament held at St Andrews Golf Course in Moka Maraval on May 15.Second place saw a tie between Marlyn Jackson and Jacqueline Niles of team DirecTV and Anthony Hosang and Adrian Sampson of Janoura's Customs Designs Limited scoring 47 points.
Gisele Marfleet, chairman of the Scotiabank of T&T Foundation, lauded the 41 teams that shared the organisation vision to use sports as a catalyst for creating a greater awareness of the illness."Annually", she said, "the Foundation was heartened by the number of men that participate in the tournament which originally fielded female golfers".
"The Scotiabank Foundation seeks to create a brighter future for T&T by supporting activities and initiatives that focus on our youth, education, arts, sports and women's health. Scotia Foundation has also been pivotal in the development and funding of Scotia Kiddy Cricket in conjunction with the Ministry of Education and Sports and the T&T Cricket Board and the West Indies Cricket Board of Control," she said.
Marfleet added, "Coming up on October 17, we will be having another of our signature events: The Women Against Breast Cancer 5k race and fund raiser, which is held annually and simultaneously in Tobago, San Fernando and Port-of-Spain.
