United National Congress leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar has filed papers for the Siparia seat in her party's nominations for internal elections.
Standing smiling before the media at Rienzi Complex, Couva on Friday, she held up her nomination receipt and announced that screening would begin Monday.
The crowd cheered loudly as shemade a few other brief remarks, but she then left without taking any questions from the media.
She was among several former MPs to fileon or before Friday, the closing day for party nominations.
Roodal Mooonilal, who filed for Oropouche East, said that the screening process would be "long and tedious".
A slate of candidates would be annouced in a matter of weeks, Moonilal said.
Devant Maharaj, Stephen Cadiz and Ramona Ramdial filed for Caroni Central, Chaguanas East and Couva North respectively.
Also applying for Couva North wasPersad-Bissessar's advisor Barry Padarath, one of several other not-so-new faces to appear at Rienzi Complex.
Among the familiar faces were Minister of Sport Brent Sancho who filed for Toco/ Sangre Grande, Energy Minister Kevin Ramnarine for Cumuto/Manzanilla, Water Resources Minster Ganga Singh for Chaguanas, Attorney General Garvin Nicholas for Diego Martin North East, and Minister in the Ministry of the People and Social Development Christine Newallo-Hosein for St Joseph
Some relative unknowns also surfaced.
Names such as Ravi Ratiram, Mantab Mohammed, Mawana Abdullah, Ronnie Forte–who filed for Tabaquite, Naparima, San Fernando West and Caroni Central respectively–are likely to be less familiar than the MPs and Cabinet members.
