The Alliance of Independents (AOI) has deprecated "distasteful" comments made by People's National Movement proposed candidate Fitzgerald Hinds about Third Force Movement leader, Timothy Hamel-Smith.
A statement issuedfrom AOI on Thursday said Hinds attacked "essentially attacked MrTimothyHamel- Smith, in the mostvilemanner."
At a PNM meeting in Morvant on Tuesday,Hinds said the AOI party symbol "should be Hamel-Smith on a cesspit in Westmoorings with a Flit gun killing all the cockroaches".
The statement, which was signed by AOI political leader Joe Pires, said, "Mr Hinds must understand that there is a cleardifferentiation between political 'picong'and disturbing, distasteful language."
It added, "The AOIrecognisesthe People's National Movement as one of the major political gatekeepers, and alsorecognisesthatresident within this body are citizens who are upstanding, respected and respectable.
It asked whether PNM membersAmery Browne, Faris Al-Wari, Donna Cox, Nileung Hypoliteand Keith Rowley supported the views expressed by Hinds.
"Again, the AOI calls upon the Council for the Code of Ethical Political Conduct to let your voices be heard during these bruising political offerings, and let it be heard sooner than later. This is a call for all politicalpartiesand leaders toremember that the campaign trail must come to an end at some point, and after that point we shall all reside with and among each other. We must keep ourselves in check, as the AOI promises to maintain a similar stance throughout the campaign," the statement said
