BASSETERRE–A mature half century from Brad Hodge spurred Guyana Amazon Warriors to an easy 23-run victory over St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in game 17 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) at Warner Park here on Wednesday.Hodge was 61 not out from 36 balls to ensure the Warriors were ahead on the Duckworth/Lewis method as rain brought a premature end to the match in the 17th over.
Assad Fudadin and Denesh Ramdin played different cameos in assisting the Amazon Warriors towards to 146 for two after St Kitts and Nevis had posted 158 for six.Hodge was unmoved by three rain interruptions to the Warriors run chase, taking the attack to the Patriots with five fours and three sixes in an important anchor role.
His entertaining innings included back-to-back sixes off the first two balls of the thirteenth over bowled by Shahid Afridi which put the Warriors well on course to victory despite the rain interruptions.
Warriors lost Trevon Griffith in the second over but Ramdin launched a counter attack with 31 in 15 balls including two sixes and three fours before he was caught. Fudadin, in his second match of the season, compiled a run-a-ball 43, and helped to cement the chase with an unbeaten 98-run third-wicket stand with Hodge. The Patriots attack suffered a setback after their star bowler from the last two matches Tabraiz Shamsi pulled up injured early into his spell.
Earlier, Patriots lost their openers within the first four overs after choosing to bat, but Captain Marlon Samuels' again led the revival.Samuels slammed a 40 ball 61 the only score above 19 while adding 54 for the third wicket with Tonito Willett.Marchant de Lange and Ronsford Beaton both took two wickets for the Amazon Warriors who have been elevated to fifth position while the Patriots remain in third place.
