A 53 year-old Couva man collapsed in court this morning after being denied bail.
Pooran Sookdeo, of Exchange Estate, Couva, appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington in the San Fernando Magistrates' Court on five charges of falsifying cheques.
It is alleged that on five different dates, Sookdeo took lumber from three places, producing the falsified cheques as payment.
He was represented by attorney Ainsley Lucky, who pleaded with Wellington for bail. However, Wellington said considering the number of charges against him, Sookdeo was likely to commit a similar offence if placed on bail.
Moments later, Sookdeo collapsed in the prisoners' docks. An ambulance was called and he was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital, still in handcuffs, to be treated.
