Hail St Anthony's College, the 2015 North Zone Inter-Col champs. They received this title after defeating archrivals St Mary's College 31 in the final yesterday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.
The "Tigers" were anxious to avenge a 40 defeat by their counterparts in the Premier Division earlier this month, and appeared well on course to achieving this, when Brent Joel met sweetly on the volley an earlier cross from the corner kick. The CIC custodian Kristopher Davidson did not time the flight of the ball properly and it fell nicely for the Joel who gave the Westmooring team the lead after the 51st minute.
The Tigers had hardly completed their celebrations when they went two goals up from an own goal. In the 58th minute, Kathon St Hilliare found room down the right flank and when he centred in search for St Hilliare, it was instead turned in by defender Nathan Harte, although the CIC goalie thought he had it covered.
St Mary's College struggled all evening as they tried to replicate the performance that earned them the win over their opponents not too long ago.And instead of creating opportunities, they received another goal which almost confirmed that the title was heading to St Anthony's College.
In the 85th minute Emilio Saunders was given marching orders for his second bookable offence by referee Gyaso Mc Donald.St Mary's coach Trevor Spicer, the ex El Dorado man, was also sent off for dissent.
But instead of hanging their heads in shame the "Saints" picked themselves up and pulled a goal back as a long clearance from Davidson was poorly taken care off and from the ensuing goal-mouth scrimmage after, Shim was quick to pounce on a loose ball in the box to cut the scores to 12 with a minute left in regulation time.
However, any hopes of a comeback was cut short though when St Hilliare found room down the right flank by outsprinting his marker and from on top the area he beat the onrushing Davidson with a fierce low drive that squeezed below the body of the goalkeeper for the winner 31 in time added on.
His goal assured his team the North title and a place in the National Inter-Col semifinal on Tuesday against the winner of Saturday's Central Zone final clash between Presentation College of Chaguanas and Carapichaima East at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva, on from 3.30 pm.
Today, down South at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, Premier Division champions Naparima College and rivals Presentation College of San Fernando will square off in their Zonal final from 3.30 pm.
