For­mer na­tion­al youth for­ward Jer­rel Brit­to led de­fend­ing Dig­i­cel Pro League cham­pi­ons DI­RECTV W Con­nec­tion to a 2-1 win over De­fence Force in a resched­uled round two match day six fix­ture at the Ato Boldon Sta­di­um, Cou­va, on Tues­day.

Brit­to scored in the 64th minute, and two min­utes lat­er (66th minute), set up an­oth­er, scored by for­ward Hashim Ar­cia, to cush­ion Con­nec­tion in the sec­ond half be­fore De­fence Force pulled back a goal in the 86th minute through sub­sti­tute De­vorn Jorsling.

Brit­to, mak­ing up for missed chances in the first half, pro­duced a crack­er from just out­side the box to send the ball in­to the roof of goal­keep­er Shel­don Clarke's net­ting for his eight league goal this sea­son � ty­ing with Cale­do­nia AIA's Per­nell Schultz and Cen­tral FC's Ataulla Guer­ra at the top of the scor­ing list–as Con­nec­tion took a 1-0 lead.

The "Savonet­ta Boys" dou­bled its lead just two min­utes lat­er, af­ter Brit­to fed Ar­cia at the edge of the area, and the lanky for­ward, who had missed the tar­get six min­utes be­fore the break, sent a low dri­ve in­to the low­er far cor­ner of the De­fence Force goal.

Goal­keep­er Clarke, who got some glove to the ball, pro­duced a penal­ty save ten min­utes in­side the sec­ond pe­ri­od to de­ny Alvin Jones af­ter ref­er­ee Ce­cile Hinds ruled that Cur­tis Gon­za­les had fouled Colom­bian Stiv­en Lopez Con­cha in­side the box.

Brit­to lat­er missed out on his dou­ble, curl­ing his shot just wide of the far up­right from in­side the box, to the re­lief of Clarke in the 73rd minute.

Then with six min­utes of reg­u­la­tion time left, Jorsling, who ar­rived as a sec­ond half sub­sti­tute, sent a glanc­ing head­er off a Mar­vin Jones free kick to beat goal­keep­er Ju­lani Archibald from in­side the box for his sixth league goal this sea­son, re­duc­ing the deficit 1-2.

How­ev­er, even with near­ly six min­utes of stop­page time played, De­fence Force's ty­ing goal nev­er ar­rived. The re­sult kept De­fence Force fourth, tied with fifth placed North East Stars on 23 points, while sec­ond placed Con­nec­tion (26 points) moved with­in three points of lead­ers Cen­tral FC (29 points).

Cen­tral FC, win­ners of this sea­son's First Cit­i­zens Cup and the Rawle Fletch­er (Round One) Tro­phy, has con­ced­ed de­feats in its last two match­es. The 'Cou­va Sharks' not on­ly heads in­to the Car­ni­val break with over­all pole po­si­tion in the 2014-2015 Dig­i­cel Pro League stand­ings, but it al­so leads the sep­a­rate stand­ings for the Akeem Adams (Round Two) Tro­phy with 12 points. Trail­ing Cen­tral FC are Play Whe San Juan Jabloteh, De­fence Force (10 points), North East Stars, Point Fortin Civic, W Con­nec­tion (9 points), Po­lice FC (8 points), Cale­do­nia AIA (3 points) and St. Ann's Rangers (0).

Points are cal­cu­lat­ed dur­ing each round, but not af­fect­ing the reg­u­lar over­all league ta­ble, to de­ter­mine the win­ner. The Akeem Adams Tro­phy has been in­tro­duced this sea­son along with the Rawle Fletch­er (Round One) and Kevon Carter (Round Three) Tro­phies in mem­o­ry of the fall­en play­ers, which the ti­tles are named af­ter, and al­so in an at­tempt to in­crease the lev­el of com­pet­i­tive­ness dur­ing the lengthy Pro League sea­son.

Ac­tion in the Dig­i­cel Pro League will re­sume on Feb­ru­ary 20 fol­low­ing the Car­ni­val break.
