Emirates Skycargo attempts to defy top-weight in the five-runner three-year-old handicap over a mile of Chelmsford polytrack today, you wouldn't bet against it.
Charlie Appleby's charge was a convincing winner over a similar distance on Lingfield 'poly' nigh on seven weeks ago and subsequently 'spelled' in readiness for a turf campaign; on the time-handicap Emirates Skycargo was our highlight of this all-weather season.
Third home, Rockfast, confirmed the value of that success and so did With Approval, ten lengths fourth and 8lbs better off this time.
More of a danger will probably be recent winner Single Lense, a progressive type and fancied but Ryan Moore rides Emirates Skycargo and we reckon this is near to a 'cert' imaginable; given my recent form that won't resonate among bookmaker's circles!
Incidentally Laura Mongan purchased With Approval recently out of Charles Hills' yard and it will be interesting to see how she fares with the Approve gelding, and stable-companion Dandarrell, one of eight 'decs' for the 'aged' handicap over ten furlongs.
Frederick Tylicki renews his association with the Makbul gelding, that's a bonus as he's a real genuine 'favourite!'
This particular ex-champion apprentice has partnered Dandarrell to four of his five successes and was aboard three weeks ago when the blinkered eight-year-old was beaten half a length in a bunch finish, over a mile.
An extra furlong this time, no blinkers.
If all eight 'decs' go to post have an each-way punt with three places available.
At Southwell on the well-worn, unique, fibresand surface Martiniquaise will doubtless be a short-priced favourite and probably win but once-raced Boolass is worth chancing on the back of a useful course effort; ability to act on the 'deep stuff' is so relevant.
