In just 13 days the murder toll stood at 26 late yesterday. The most recent killings are that of Abigail Persad and Sherwin Wint.According to police reports Wint, 25, was with his girlfriend Tamika Marcano, 20, at Boissiere Lane, Belmont, when a man fired at them.Wint, of Samuel Lane, Belmont, was shot about the body while Marcano was shot in the arm. A third person, 16-year-old Roslyn Lewis was shot in the leg. At the time of the shooting she was crossing the road. Police said the shooting took place around 8.30 pm Sunday.Speaking with relatives outside the Forensic Science Centre, St James, yesterday, Wint's sister Stacey Kelly, said her brother was the only boy of her parents. She said her brother was not affiliated in any way in any type of illegal activity and had recently been employed at Johnny Q in Belmont.
Kelly said her brother was a nice person who was just at the wrong place at the wrong time.Fifteen minutes after Wint's killing police said a man dressed in black with a black umbrella stood outside the home of Persad, 34, and opened fire as she was about to enter her home.Police reports are that around 8.45 pm Persad was in the front passenger seat outside her Manhattan Drive, Maturita, Arima, home when she was shot. A male companion, who was in the car at the time of the shooting, ran leaving Persad and her six-year-old daughter in the vehicle. The child was not physically hurt. While fleeing the gunman continued shooting at the vehicle hitting the proprietress about the body. She was rushed to the Arima Health Facility and was pronounced dead on arrival.Homicide detectives said they have no motive for any of the two killings and are continuing investigations.
