The issue of the emails read into the records of the House of Representatives last May by Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley has once again become prominent in the news. This follows an exclusive report by CNC3 news anchor Khamal Georges in which he exposes the fact that the American Internet search company Google has not had any request made to it from this country for any information.
This revelation clearly contradicts public statements made by the police that requests have been made to Google for assistance in providing information on the allegations read out by Dr Rowley in Parliament last year.Quite apart from the police, there is also the Integrity Commission. Chairman Ken Gordon has recused himself from participating in the investigation because of the controversy that arose last year over his meeting at his home with Dr Rowley some five days before Rowley's allegations in the Parliament.
One does not really know what approach the Integrity Commission is taking in relation to this investigation. The absence of any request for information from Google by relevant authorities in this country cannot only be confined to the police. What about the Integrity Commission? Have they made any request to Google, seeing that they had the information since March last year, on referral from former President Richards?
