National cyclist Njisane Phillip will not be returning to competition anytime soon.
This as doctors at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center in California, USA, are no closer to discovering what caused him to be admitted and ultimately warded at hospital for seven days back in January.
The Olympic athlete made the revelation during a telephone interview on Friday. New tests would be performed this week.
Phillip had his heart set on representing T&T at this month's UCI Track World Championships in Colombia. The event is scheduled to start on February 26.
His first appointment with nephrologist Dr Steven Sawelson and urologist Dr Timothy Lesser was on January 30 at the medical facility. He received the results on February 3.
His meeting with the medical staff came 20 days after being discharged following results from a successful Lasix renal scan that showed steadily dropping creatinine levels.
When he returned to the health facility of February 3, medical experts were still puzzled as to the cause of Phillip's sudden illness that ultimately led to him being admitted and ultimately warded at hospital.
"Everything right now is at a stand-still! I am training on and off, depending on how I feel. I just don't want to go all out until I get full clearance.
"Doctors want me do to do more test next week. The same tests that they ran when I was in hospital, are the same test they're running again to see what (is) going on; to see if anything has changed. They still don't know," he said.
