A Princes Town mother is seeking answers and wants justice after her 39-year-old son died in what she describes as "questionable circumstances."Chrisendai Nandalal told Crimewatch host Ian Alleyne that her son, Norrel Nandalal, also known as "Starboy," of Busy Corner, New Grant, went out with his girlfriend, Waheeda, last Friday night.
The couple went to the Golden Rose Bar in Matilda. When they arrived there, however, Waheeda's former boyfriend Kapil was at the bar. The woman reportedly ordered drinks for Nandalal, Kapil and herself. His mother told Alleyne that Nandalal became upset and wanted to leave immediately.
But one of the people involved in the incident told a different story. The witness said that Nandalal started cursing and confronted the man, telling him to leave his woman alone. It is alleged that a physical confrontation took place and Nandalal was beaten. Nandalal left the bar and there are reports that a man and a woman followed him. There was another confrontation and the windscreen of Nandalal's Black Nissan B12 was smashed.
There was another confrontation outside the bar, during which time a man squeezed his hand on the car door. Nandalal then left, and reportedly called a friend and told him what had happened. His friend told Alleyne that he said he was on his way home, and asked him to accompany him to the Princes Town Police Station to file a report.
However, on his way home Nandalal's vehicle ran into a lamppost near Bhagwantee Road and Nachadee Road in New Grant, minutes from his home. He sustained injuries to his head and remained in a coma until he died on Monday at the San Fernando General Hospital. But the story has taken on an interesting twist. Hours after the incident, even while Nandalal was in the hospital, critical from the head injuries he sustained, his girlfriend whom he had gone to the bar with allegedly flew out of the country.
The man who was at the centre of the incident met with Alleyne on Thursday and admitted that he had a former relationship with the woman in question. But he insisted he did not know she was coming to the bar that Friday evening. He said he was willing to assist the police in their investigation.
Alleyne also believes that the police must ensure that the woman involved in the incident is questioned. Having viewed Nandalal's body on Thursday, Alleyne is now demanding a thorough investigation, since he says it appears Nandalal was badly beaten.
