I am not engaging in political mischief.
That's the statement by Sacha Singh, former girlfriend of Tourism Minister Chandresh Sharma as she defended her decision to speak out about an incident of assault which allegedly occured on March 12 at Grand Bazaar.
Singh, who confirmed she was in a relationship with Sharma up to three weeks ago, is also the managing director of AMS Biotech Security Concept and AmSure T&T Limited. She has since reported the incident to the St Joseph police station, triggering a policeinvestigation.
"It is not, (playing political mischief), I give them (her detractors) the full okay to do an investigation themselves, they can get the police report, they can get the medical report, I believe when all the reports have come in from the police and the commissioner, then a proper decision can be made, the Prime Minister or anyone can't make a decision unless the proper facts have been relayed on paper," Singh said.
She was speaking yesterday at a news conference at Piarco Plaza, corner ChurchillRoosevelt Highway and BWIA Boulevard, Piarco, where she stated her decision to speak out about the alleged incident was based on principle and not politics.
"It's not a fight to get him out, it's for him to understand that a wrong has been done and the proper reprimanding measures and a proper justification should be given for that. It is not my decision, it is not what I think. It is what is right and that is what I stand by and you should not abuse a woman under any circumstances."
Though she has made no contact with Sharma since the alleged incident, Singh admitted that she is scared for her life. Singh is now demanding that her "personal" pictures be removed from the United National Congress' Facebook page.
Attempting to give an explanation about the photos her long-time friend Cliff Paray, who was also at yesterday's news conference, said: "Just like any other couple we would send photos to each other, she ended up saving the WhatsApp conversation as an e-mail and sending it to herself, therefore it was accessed by her IT people and it was used in that improper way. I just wanted to clarify, it has nothing to do with what is going on now with the potential assault charges."
Singh welcomed a meeting with the Prime Minister to talk about the incident should she be invited for one.Police investigators were in her office during the news conference waiting to question her about the incident.
