ST JOHN'S, Antigua–Cash-strapped regional airline, Liat has confirmed the appointment of British national, David Evans, as its new chief executive officer, replacing Captain Ian Brunton who resigned in September last year.Liat said that its new chief executive, whose appointment becomes effective from April 22, "is a results driven executive with more than 35 years of experience in senior roles within the aviation industry".
Liat said Evans served in senior positions with British Airways in East Africa, Saudi Arabia, France, Philippines, China, Denmark and the United States and was also held responsibility for the airline's activities in Latin America and the Caribbean.
In 2007, he joined the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and under their auspices served as Chief Operating Officer of Zambian Airways in 2007. In 2009 he joined Kuwait start-up airline Wataniya Airways as Chief Commercial Officer. Since then he has provided strategic and commercial consultancy services to Egypt's Nile Air and other organisations in the Middle East, the airline said.
Evans's selection comes six months after Captain Ian Brunton resigned at the height of a series of setbacks as the island-hopping carrier sought to bring a replacement fleet of French-made ATR-71 aircraft for their aging Canadian-made DeHavilland Dash-8 and Bombardier Q-400 aircraft.
