The decision to promote Daniel Assoon yesterday proved to be an excellent move, as the right-hander struck 62 to lead the South zone to an easy 174-run win over South-West at the Francis Seepaul Recreation Ground in the BG T&T Under-15 Interzone tournament.Resuming on 32/0 in the second innings, South got to 196/4, an overall lead of 293 runs. Assoon, who normally bats at position six or seven, came in at four and did not disappoint. Together with left-hander Rohan Singh (34), the pair took the match away from South-West. Hasim Headley tried his best to contain South, grabbing 2/29.
Chasing 294, South-West was bowled out for 119. Singh and Assoon returned to snatch three wickets each. Singh, a medium pacer, was the top bowler taking 3/11, while fast bowler Assoon took 3/31. Rodney Sieunarine tried his best to hold the South-West innings together, scoring 26.Round three will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday.
