National junior squash player Charlotte Knaggs had to come from a set down to win the girls Under-19 title as singles action continued at the Junior Caribbean Area Squash Association (Casa) Championships in Bermuda, on Tuesday.
Knaggs lost the first set 7-11 to Guyanese Akela Wiltshire and was again forced to fight back. Knaggs showed her class bouncing back to win the next three sets 11-2, 11-7, 11-7 to lift the title. In the quarterfinal round, Knaggs came from a set down to defeat Gabrielle Fraser in four sets.
Alexandria Yearwood won silver for T&T after losing in the girls U-15 final. Barbadian Amanda Haywood outlasted Yearwood in straight sets 11-1, 11-4, 11-2.
Marie-Claire Barcant (girls U-17), Chad Salandy (boys U-17) and Nku Patrick (boys U-19) all walked away with bronze medals for T&T after winning their respective third place matches.
Faith Gillezeau unfortunately could not win bronze for T&T, losing to Taylor Fernandez of Guyana in three sets in the girls U-17 third place playoff.
Action in the team category began yesterday.
