TATT & UWI working together in new cyber safety project

The Telecom­mu­ni­ca­tions Au­thor­i­ty of T&T (TATT) and The Uni­ver­si­ty of the West In­dies (UWI) St. Au­gus­tine will launch a cy­ber safe­ty aware­ness project on Wednes­day at 4 pm.

De­vel­oped by the uni­ver­si­ty's Cam­pus In­for­ma­tion Tech­nol­o­gy Ser­vices de­part­ment, the project aims to make the In­ter­net safer for chil­dren by help­ing chil­dren and par­ent to un­der­stand the risks as­so­ci­at­ed with the in­ap­pro­pri­ate use of tech­nol­o­gy.

TATT will pro­vide up to $150,000 in fund­ing for the project, a re­lease from TATT said.

TATT and UWI re­cent­ly signed a mem­o­ran­dum of agree­ment sig­nalling the start of the year­long project which will be ex­e­cut­ed main­ly by CITS with the sup­port of IT stu­dents from the uni­ver­si­ty. Sign­ing on be­half of TATT was CEO Cris Seecher­an, while St Au­gus­tine Cam­pus Prin­ci­pal Pro­fes­sor Clement Sankat signed on be­half of the uni­ver­si­ty.

The launch will be held at TATT's of­fice, Eighth Av­enue Ex­ten­sion, off Twelfth Street, Barataria.
