"Accountability by a government for its decisions and actions must be (a) cornerstone of the democratic process. The proposed development of Invader's Bay is of national concern and involves pristine and valuable real property which belong to the citizens of T&T... After 51 years of Independence, the society must demand transparency and legislative moves in that direction should be welcomed and applauded."
–Justice Frank Seepersad
The above (in part) conclusions of Justice Seepersad in the matter in which the Joint Consultative Council requested access to information on the reported $5.5 billion project rightly place sovereignty in the hands of the people and this is the most important judgment of its kind I have read.
Having obviously understood the nature and trends of the local and international political culture, that being that people are demanding that they must be at the centre of their affairs, Justice Seepersad ruled that the Minister of Planning and the Cabinet have to release all of the legal advice given to the Cabinet by senior attorney Fenton Ramsahoye on the Invaders Bay project to the JCC and by extension, to the public.
