There will always be the benchmark for the game, Test cricket, to set the standard for sustained play, concentration, strategy and stamina. But in a fast-paced world of shortening attention spans and a fixation on personality, the colourful, brisk and entertaining world of T20 is a strong entry point for new audiences to become fans of cricket.
The Limacol Caribbean Premier League T20 competition was, ultimately, a great success and generated a lot of interest and excitement despite hiccups during the league and the current dispute over the result.
Those disputes included the use of the term T&T to describe the Red Steel team. That matter was debated heatedly before being ultimately overruled by Cabinet, putting a T&T Red Steel back in the game.
The franchise model for cricket will always have its detractors. Cricket has traditionally been a game of nations and regions, not of designed teams of players and the idea of a "home" team, featuring nationals of another territory playing against rival franchises featuring T&T nationals, wasn't universally supported.
