The lone T20 clash between the West Indies and Bangladesh in the Dhaka Bank Cup was washed out on Wednesday night at Warner Park in St Kitts.
The game started in fine weather but 17 minutes into the contest, the heavens opened and the players never returned to the field. Bangladesh won the toss and were 31 without loss in 4.4 overs when the interruption came. Opener Anamul Haque was unbeaten on a run a ball 19 while Tamim Iqbal was 11 not out. Left arm Jamaican pacer Sheldon Cottrell worked up some good pace and had conceded just five runs from his two overs. Fellow left arm medium pacer Krishmar Santokie gave away 18 runs in his two overs.
Much to the surprise of the players, the rain accompanied by strong winds, arrived and the ground staff had serious problems in getting the covers on. It took them about two minutes to finally nail down the covers over the pitch but by this time the rain was belting down.
Umpires Joel Wilson and Peter Nero, both from T&T made an inspection at 10.45pm and decided that it was still too wet to resume the contest. Also, while awaiting the inspection there was a power outage at the facility.
The teams now shift their focus to the two-match Test series which starts on Friday at Arnos Vale in St Vincent. Bangladesh will remain in St Kitts where they play St Kitts and Nevis in a three-day warm-up match starting on Saturday.
The West Indies players will return home before getting together on Monday for a short camp prior to the Test.
