Bangladesh may be concerned about the form of West Indian veteran batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul, heading into the first Test match against West Indies which starts on Friday, after the left-handed Guyanese struck 183 yesterday playing for St Kitts and Nevis in a drawn three-day match.
Chanderpaul, resuming on 70 not out at Warner Park, propelled St Kitts and Nevis from 232/4 overnight to 399 all out, a small lead of 22 runs on first innings. Chanderpaul spent almost seven hours at the crease, facing 315 balls hitting 20 fours and two sixes.
West Indies is hoping that Chanderpaul can continue this form in the two-test series against Bangladesh. The first Test will be played in St Vincent from Friday, while the second Test bowls off on September 13 in St Lucia.
Shane Jeffers, who was dismissed on Sunday, struck 118 to help boost the St Kitts total. Rubel Hossain (3/90), Shuvagata Hom (3/48) and Taijul Islam (3/109) all took three wickets for Bangladesh.
At the close, Bangladesh got to 148/4 in its second innings. Shamsur Rahman and Tamim Iqbal had an aggressive opening stand before both batsmen retired.
Rahman made 46, while Iqbal pitched in with 43. Shaquille Martina and Elvin Berridge were the top bowlers for St Kitts and Nevis, grabbing 1/45 and 1/48, respectively.
