National cyclist Varun Maharajh wasted little time on his return to T&T, winning the elite open/invitational category of the Keep Fit Criterium at the Diego Martin Highway, yesterday.
Maharajh representing the Rigtech Sonics Cycling Club, finished ahead of Phillip Clarke (Heatwave) and Peter Thompson (Braves). Maharajh represented T&T at the Elite Pan American Track Cycling Championships in Mexico earlier this month. Jovian Gomez who also wore T&T colours at the Pan Am Championships had to settle for fourth place.
Some of the other riders winning races on the day were Marlon Scott (elite four), Tyrell Allong (juniors) and Ronell Woods (juveniles).
Up next on the local cycling calender is the Michael Phillips Republic Day Classic at the Nelson Mandela Park (formerly King George V Park) on Wednesday, followed by the Memor
