For­mer na­tion­al fast bowler Alec Burns is now act­ing in the po­si­tion of chief se­lec­tor of the Se­nior T&T crick­et team se­lec­tion pan­el.

Burns has re­placed for­mer na­tion­al crick­eter Dud­nath Ramkessoon, who has tak­en some time away from the game for health rea­sons. Pres­i­dent of the T&T Crick­et Board (TTCB), Az­im Bas­sarath re­vealed yes­ter­day: "Burns is act­ing as chair­man of the se­lec­tion pan­el in the ab­sence of Dud­nath Ramkessoon who is not avail­able at the mo­ment. It is a tem­po­rary ap­point­ment and we ex­pect­ed Ram­keesoon to be back in ac­tion by ear­ly March.

"We de­cid­ed to go with Burns be­cause he has served very well for quite a long time and has the nec­es­sary ex­pe­ri­ence for the job. He was rec­om­mend­ed to us and we went with the se­lec­tion be­cause we have been hear­ing good things about Burns all the while. We have been hear­ing that he makes very good points dur­ing the se­lec­tors meet­ings and is very fair when it comes to the job of choos­ing the best men to play for T&T."

The se­lec­tion pan­el al­so in­cludes Nar­ine Bideshi, Roland Sam­path and Kelvin Williams.

Burn's will chair his first meet­ing very soon, as the se­lec­tors sit to choose the T&T team for the up­com­ing re­gion­al First Class and 50 overs tour­na­ments.
